Non-conformity:
A study in Conformism.
Wow,
look at me, I'm so kewl and rebellious! I dress all in black and listen to
Slipknot, just like everyone else!
Hey,
look at my cool new shirt with a subversive slogan!
I’m
so daring and original, thank god some invented Hot Topic!
Y’know,
it’s only rebellion if you do it differently.
As
Mr Snaffleburger said, what is the meaning of rebellion in a society where all
forms of expression are mediated through consumption?
To
not consume what the shops want you to, not to buy some damn “**** the
system” shirt from Gap ($19.99 plus tax).
If
you rebel because it’s cool, that’s not rebellion, that’s flock behaviour.
I
look around me, and I am sickened by what I see.
Non-Conformity
is so Conformist, I wear a suit to stand out in a crowd.
If
you don’t dress exactly like all the other little “Anarchist” drones, you
get yelled at for being a “Square”, or a “Corporate Pawn”.
Newsflash,
folks: Hot Topic isn’t run by a three-year-old Tibetan Llama tamer, it’s a
Corporation.
Slipknot
don’t make music to “Express their creativity", they get paid one **** of a
lot for it.
The
Machine does not care what you listen to, only that they promote it.
The
Machine does not care what shirt you wear, only that it sold it to you.
The
Machine grinds on, and your money greases the wheels.
