Violence in the media, and the “Guiltless Parent” complex.
Today, there is a trend to blame all problems in the
world on three things: Terrorists, Violent media, and teenagers.
Whilst
the third is admittedly a problem, and the first is a different subject, the
second is what I’m here to speak about: Cry-baby Soccer-Moms that can’t accept
the fact that they’re bad parents need something to blame for their kid’s
misbehaviour, so RUN FOR THE HILLS MA BARKER! THEM VIDEOGAMES ARE EVIL!
Seriously:
how much do these videogames teach us to kill?
Before
Doom, I’d never have figured out that if a pointed a gun at someone and pressed
Ctrl, they’d die!
Were
it not for Mortal Kombat, I’d never have figured out that punching people would
hurt them!
And
Grand Theft Auto: Wow, I never knew that you could actually STEAL CARS and RUN
PEOPLE OVER! What a shocking revelation that was!
If
your child can’t tell fantasy from reality, don’t blame the grey box sat on the
desk; blame your crappy parenting skills.
If
your child shoots up a school, don’t blame the fact that he played a spot of
doom, blame the fact that people at school treat him like the shit that your
influence has convinced him he is!
And
when it comes to sex, just think: Will the sight of one nipple drive him mad?
Will
his mind explode at seeing an oversized mammary gland?
Frankly,
the female pudendum is nothing but a natural part of life, and you need to
accept that fact and stop trying to impose your prudish mores on your children.
So,
who is to blame when your child defies you?
You
are.
Deal with it.
